[Worldtrippers home] [2025 Crystal-Viking]

April 24, 2025
Agadir, Morocco

The view of Agadir from our cruise ship. Yes, those are two retired airplanes on top of the mountain! A Turkish entrepreneur had them transported up there, with plans to turn them into a restaurant and café. They are due to open in June 2025.

We are entering a part of the world cruise itinerary with continuous ports. We are also visiting ports that we have visited previously. For last year’s report on Agadir, click here.

This year, we took the shuttle bus into town, which dropped us downtown in front of the Odyssey Hotel. We were joined by the Viking Resident Historian, Dr. Caroline Malloy, and her husband Steve. (We have sailed with Caroline many times before but never met her husband. We were beginning to think he was imaginary. He just boarded the ship this morning.)

Gail’s only goal today was to visit the beach, and what a beach it was. Agadir’s urban beach is almost seven and a half miles long, and it is gorgeous. Anywhere else in the world, such a beach would be littered with high rises all around. Not here. The virgin sands offer an unobstructed view to the mountains behind. We spent hours just walking along the surf, where Gail picked up rocks of various colors.

As we left, Gail declared, “If we ever come back to Agadir, I just want to go back to this beach.”

This ramp is designed to accommodate wheelchairs, but it looks like a tripping hazard for anyone not in a wheelchair

A Moroccan McDonald’s on the promenade (we did not eat there)

We imagine the mountain says “Agadir”… but we don't read Arabic

Gail had a relaxing day just walking along the surf in perfect weather
