[Worldtrippers home] [2025 Crystal-Viking]
We have left Africa, sailed across the Strait of Gibraltar, and have now entered Europe. To see what we did last year in Cadíz, Spain, click here.
This year, we were not assigned to any excursions. In addition, we set our clocks ahead last night and lost and hour. After a lazy morning, we decided to walk through Cadíz, which we have not done before. Fortunately, Cadíz is a good walking city.
We are docked at the commercial port, so we had to take a complementary shuttle bus to get to the terminal. From there, it is only a five-minute walk to the old town.
Once again, we were joined by fellow lecturer Craig and his wife Liz. We went to the Mercado Centrale, where we bought lunch at one of the vendor stalls. What we didn’t find out until too late is that each stall has a small number of tables for dining. You are only allowed to sit at the table of the vendor where you bought your drink, not your food. Since we had purchased our drinks from another stall, Craig had to purchase even more drinks from our food vendor, just so we could sit at one of their tables.
We stopped at the Cathedral but didn’t go in. (It was Sunday and the bishop was in town – apparently because of the pope’s death – so hours and access were limited.) Gail wanted to see the ruins of the old Roman Theater. Unfortunately, we arrived at 2:15 pm to discover that it closes at 2:00 pm. She was able to see a bit of it through the fence.
After five hours of leisurely stroll in perfect weather, we took a leisurely stroll back to the terminal. Our intention tonight was to have a light dinner or no dinner at all, but the World Café featured a Spanish grill tonight. More food!
