Last Sea Day

Our last appearance onstage, saying goodbye to the guests (screencap from the television replay)

In the middle of a marathon of consecutive ports, we had a rare sea day. To celebrate, the culinary staff prepared an amazing brunch on the pool deck. We have not been aboard for the entire world cruise, but we are told this was the most stunning spectacle the ship has put on. We were treated to table after table of food – everything from breakfast omelets to pastries to sweets. But the food itself was secondary to the decorative presentations. The culinary staff worked for almost a week to prepare this.

Russell presented his 12th and final lecture before Greenwich/London. Gail came up on stage at the end to thank all the guests. The audience rewarded us with a standing ovation (our second this cruise).

Viking hosted a reunion party for guests who had previously sailed on the 2022-2023 world cruise, hosted by guest Tim Au Young. (The logistics for this event were a nightmare, given the crowded schedule today. The reunion was scheduled for 5:30 pm, which would conflict with Russell’s 6:30 pm lecture. At the last minute, Viking moved Russell’s lecture to 3:00 pm, which actually resulted in a larger audience for him.)

Today was the last sea day before the 2024 Viking World Cruise ends in London. There are 220 guests who will continue on to New York. But the majority of world cruisers will disembark in Greenwich on May 6. In addition, three shiploads of new guests will embark between Greenwich and New York, so the entire culture and community of the ship will change.

We end this post with some photos from the farewell brunch…

Gail especially loved the fish display, hand-made by Patrick (on right, pictured with Richard). The flamingoes are made from radishes. The fish are made from lemons.
