The coastal town of Eden, Australia, is the southernmost town in the state of New South Wales. It is small, with a population of only 3,000 or so. Eden is another port that our Viking Neptune was lucky to get into (after our sister Viking Sky turned away in rough seas). Once again we anchored and took tenders to get ashore.
The main road, Imlay Street, reminded us of a small town, with local shops lining both sides of the street. We took advantage of our short stay here to go to the grocery store and get some supplies, including more crew snacks. We also bought Australian drover hats at a local market booth. (Russell has been wearing the same hat for almost 20 years – a gift from his manager at Agilent – and it is about on its last legs.) We also enjoyed a huge platter of fish and chips at a local takeaway.
All aboard was 5:00 pm, and at 6:30 pm Russell was back on stage with the last of his Australia lectures. He has a rare 10-day break before his next lecture – the longest break he has ever had on a contract. (We have some new Australia lecturers coming aboard in Sydney, so all of Russell’s Australia lectures were scheduled for before Sydney.) Gail has a 12-day break between felting workshops, though she will sit in the Explorer’s Lounge and teach felting to anyone who wants to learn.
We will take advantage of this time to catch up on bills, the blog… and rest.
