Today’s port, Honfleur, is a small town with not much tourist activity. However, it is the gateway to two bigger attractions. Guests could take a three-hour bus ride over to Paris to spend a few hours there. Or they could take a two-hour bus ride to Giverny, home of Claude Monet and the Impressionist art movement.
A funny thing happened to us on the way to Honfleur. Last evening, May 5, Gail decided her cold medications weren’t helping at all, so she paid a visit to the Medical Center. She tested positive for COVID-19. Russell was also asked to take a test. While he barely tested positive, he also tested positive nonetheless.
As a result, we were both placed on immediate quarantine. Since March 1, the CDC guidance has been reduced from five days to one day quarantine after symptoms disappear. With luck, we would both be released by the evening of May 6. Due to the ship's current low population, we were able to occupy separate cabins. On the positive side, the crew, stateroom attendants and room service are all superb. Plus, we now have more time to pack.
On the negative side, the only thing we saw of Honfleur was the view from our stateroom balconies.
Russell was released from quarantine this afternoon. Gail is still exhibiting symptoms, so she will remain stateroom-bound until at least tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed that she will be released in enough time to visit Dover.
