Tromsø, Norway

The busy Storgata (shopping street) in Tromsø

Today’s port of Tromsø, Norway, is a cultural hub for the entire region. The area has been inhabited since the end of the last ice age, with building artefacts that are 10,000 years old.

We have been here multiple times before, so Gail opted to stay aboard ship and get some work done. (In previous visits, she has done a home stay and gone fishing.)

When Russell was last here in January with his sister, it was snowing too heavily to walk across the 4,000-foot Sandnessund Bridge. Today we continued to have unseasonably pleasant weather, so Russell went for a walk around town.

We continue to marvel at the gorgeous scenery we see in every direction, whether in port or aboard ship, as we sail through northern Norway.

Sandnessund Bridge ends at the Arctic Cathedral. Also known as Tromsdalen Church, this concrete and metal parish church was built in 1965.
